poonflower have now delivered me 2 sets of my russian doll fabric, I made a mistake on the dpi sizing when I uploaded the designs and now I have a huge version of the dolls.....seemed like such a good idea at the time, now I have 4 metres of the fabric, no ideas and no time to actually sew them up into anything vaguely interesting!! any ideas?
hinking of Christmas already ( well I saw mince pies stacked neatly in Tescos today!) the russian dolls will be printed onto the lovely canvas cloth at Spoonflower and hopefully be made into bags...make up bags, tote bags, purses....all I need is to give up the day job and dust down my trusty sewing machine!
ave been tempted once again to enter a spoonflower competition, only because it was for a soft toy pattern tha I have been working on anyway, so decided to use one of my little daschund designs to make a 'plushie' pattern.....better make it up so that I know that the pattern works properly!

ust finished combining all the watercolours onto a background for the spoonflower contest which is 'year of the Rabbit' to celebrate the chinese new year....no chinese rabbits in my entry as I went for the very english look of a portrait wall of many years of rabbits instead! I downloaded the background from a fabulous website called Lost and Taken which supplies high resolution downloads (free!) of the most amazing textures- cheating I know - but I'm actually supposed to be working at the day job today, not entering more competitions!
abbits are everywhere at the moment.....could be the fact that there are already easter eggs in our local Tesco's and the latest challenge at spoonflower is rabbits! Got out the watercolours yesterday and ignored the washing, ironing and hoovering (Health and safety are really going to shut us down soon!) and painted a load of rabbits, a sort of family tree of a rabbit family - will paste them altogether into a montage and post the results soon!
nother spoonflower attempt, scanned nature objects is the competition this week. I have scanned in all the late produce from my very neglected garden and tried to assemble the foliage into a traditional style flower arrangement....not perfect but it will have to do otherwise I shall miss the deadline!
ne cover button is very much like another cover button until you wrap some pretty fabric around it and make it into a bracelet! The fab Jone Hallmark - polkadotponie - showed me this bracelet when she visited last month, and it caught my son's eye, despite being 17 years old and 6ft 2, he immediately fell in love with it and was the proud owner by the time Jone left for America. I wanted to show it to you all here on my blog because it is so wonderful and covered with Jones gorgeous textile designs, but when I looked for it, I realised he must have taken it with him on his world challenge to Africa!!??!! Could it be that he considered this thing of beauty a lucky talisman? We are really missing him here as he is away for 30 days in the depths of Uganda...I hope that the bracelet is working its magic for him!
uppet patterns is the latest competition at spoonflower, and as I am dreaming about dolls and etsy glory thought I would try my hand at the puppet ideas. I have 9 hours to kill in Singapore airport and the whole place is filled with busy looking people all plugged in...how could I just sit here and eat cake!
esearching the french words for all the different styles of shoes took as long as doing the illustrations themselves! And I am sure that my french readers will either laugh or groan when they see how badly they are translated!
ill not have the time to do another design for the shoes but could not resist doing some samples as the water colours and probably all the art equipment in the house was strewn over our kitchen table as Francesca decided at long last to do some work! Cannot decide whether to do moroccan slippers lined up in a bazaar or to use the idea of shoes laid out in an illustrated dictionary style.....which could make a great series of prints...?
poonflower latest challenge is the wonderful world of shoes which is so tempting as I have admired and drooled over the Manolo Blahnick shoe paintings and Andy Warhols gorgeous shoe prints for years.....dare I enter again? It does n't hurt to research does it?
attoos have been absorbing my brain all day at work...have now finished this latest epic.....really liked the blue/green colour against the strong reds and browns...might be too much for the voters though!!!
annot resist this weeks spoonflower challenge which is tattoos.....Francesca has this great book, 1000 tattoos, and I really love the old fashioned Sailor Jerry tattoos of swallows and hearts, so spent a glorious sunday evening painting them so that I can scan them in tomorrow!
annot wait to cut into my fabric that arrived from spoonflower this morning....am very excited to have even more fabric to bring home....Nick will be pleased!
